Text Box: All the best things come in small packages and Allison (affectionately known as Alfie) is no exception! Standing all of 5’1” tall (or short?) her stature in no way reflects the height of her talent. Having begun her musical life as a flautist, Allison soon discovered the ‘joy of sax’! She played lead  alto for many years with the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, winners of the BBC National Big Band Competition in 1991,1992,1994 and 1996. Meanwhile she studied alto and soprano saxophones at De Montfort University, a specialist jazz course at Leeds College of Music and a postgraduate diploma in jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama… and she still looks young enough to be in school!  Allison has performed all over the world from Moscow and Miami to the Montreux Jazz Festival, alongside such jazz greats as Bobby Shew, Rob McConnell, Bud Shank and Stan Tracey. She currently plays alto sax and flute with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and is becoming widely recognised for her definitive West Coast style. Finally, a short poem dedicated to Allison’s life outside music… “Do not be fooled, although petite, her favourite pastime is to EAT!”
